What if I want to see MORE!!

From unforgettable sights to undiscovered corners, there’s just so much to see and explore. If you want to explore more of Costa Rica, this is the place to start your research!

Since you are on the Nicoya Peninsula, it can take a while to drive anywhere but it will be worth it.  With the exception of San Jose the capital, driving in Costa Rica is easy using Waze and Maps.me

You can also fly the domestic airlines which is a great way to see the country from the sky.

Local Airlines

Valarie almost killed me when I put her on the plane pictured here.  Unfortunately, Skyway is only doing charters now, but Green Airlines and Sansa are still operating.  It's ~$100/person each way to get around.

For an incredible itinerary, use Sansa to fly from Liberia to Quepos and go into Manuel Antonio National Park.  From there fly to San Jose and on to La Fortuna for the Monteverde Cloud Forest and hot springs resorts fueled by the Arenal volcano.  It's dry season so you will be able to see the volcano through the clouds.  Finally fly back to San Jose to travel back home.

Monteverde
The mountain where you can touch the clouds!

Established in 1972 by a coalition of scientist from the Tropical Science Center (TSC) and Quakers from the local community to protect one of the last tracts of pristine Cloud Forest in Central America, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve is a pioneer and progressive conservation and ecotourism model based in biodiversity research and education.

Drive time from Liberia Airport is ~2.5 hours

La Fortuna

This is an incredible base camp for Monteverde and Arenal

One of the reasons for La Fortuna’s popularity is the plethora of activities. You can do almost all of the quintessential Costa Rica adventure tours out of La Fortuna. You can explore the rainforest canopy on a hanging bridge, fly through the sky on a zip line, rappel down waterfalls, and splash down a churning river on a whitewater raft. With all of the choices, it can be hard to know where to start.

Where fire and water dance!
